Dr. Aisien dedicated fifty years of his life to documenting as much of the history of the Edo people of Nigeria as possible.
A Surgeon, Writer and Historian.
RING ROAD:
The image is that of the iconic Ring Road at the centre of Benin City, Nigeria. The complex within the Ring Road was once a Fort, built over a hundred years ago, by the occupying British Colonial Administration. Today, it also houses the Benin Museum. The Ring Road is situated close to the Oba's (King's) Palace, the Oba Market, the City Hall and other important Edo landmarks.
Driven by his conviction that "when an old man dies in Africa, a library is in effect set ablaze", Dr. Aisien set about documenting large portions of otherwise unrecorded aspects of Edo history.
A Surgeon, Writer and Historian.
QUEEN IDIA:
This is a sculptor of Queen Idia, the mother of Esigie, the Oba of Benin who ruled from 1504 to 1550. She played a significant role in her son's ascension and reign as Oba.
